Peace, like other forms of energy, spreads when we intentionally and repeatedly express it. Put it out there in your writing, in your speech, in your body language, and in actions big and small. Find peace in as many things as you can every day and when that gets tough (and sometimes it will) find it inside yourself - it's there, keep searching. It's a practice.
We are born with the capacity to recognize that peaceful place within ourselves, that quiet inner space that never changes, regardless of what's going on outside of us. Not everyone is aware of it, but it does exist. Some call it love, their inner child, or something similar. Find that peace in yourself, nurture it, default to it during challenging times and you'll help those around you do the same.
Here are 3 ways you can help spread peace intentionally and repeatedly, and contribute to a more peaceful world. Don't worry about faltering in your practice. Just keep that energy flowing.
1. Replace hate with love. Stop yourself before uttering the word "hate" and immediately replace it with "love". You may or may not voice it out loud but that's okay. Remember, energy flows with expression. Also keep in mind that your body responds to your expressions and words, good or bad - so why not express more of the good. Get to the point where you're using the "h" word less. It will do your body good.
2. Treat your body well. Listen to the disruptions in your physical body with curiosity, patience and loving kindness - a practice that will nourish all of your relationships. Look to your daily patterns for clues to help heal a chronic condition and/or an unhealthy habit. Many times the things we do to get healthy are the very things that are making us ill. I've lost count the number of clients that have healed from chronic conditions when they've stopped taking the supplements they thought all along were helping. Move towards creating peace in your body until you can feel that energy in your bones.
3. Create attainable goals that demonstrate your gifts. Keep your mind sharp and your creative juices flowing as you work towards goals that help you use your natural gifts. When we use our gifts, we're actually creating a more peaceful world. It doesn't have to be monumental. If you like cooking, perhaps you want to host a dinner party next year during the holidays. Enjoy the journey.
So, in order to spread peace start with yourself. Your energy matters in more ways than you can imagine. You are peace. Now go spread it.
To be the change you wish to see, you've got to feel it in your bones.
